BLUE FLASH - July 28, 2015 - Upcoming Club Activity in Toronto! -

Its official! Time to represent! We are doing it! Folks, please mark your calendars!
KBTCC will be showcasing our beloved Blues at the Canadian Pet Expo in Toronto, September 19 & 20!

And we need your help: we need human and dog volunteers to be at the booth and talk Kerries.
Nothing but Kerries all weekend long! Please consider volunteering a few hours of your time to promote
our favorite breed. You will get a weekend-long pass to the Expo and its a lot of fun!

If you can't attend, please consider making a $$ donation to sponsor our booth and promo materials (link just below).
Our Club has a very tight cash flow and this initiative is mostly financed by generous
donations from the dedicated members. So every little bit would be a tremendous help!

Most importantly, we need your creativity! Please help us make it fun and educational.
We'd like to hear your thoughts on the booth set-up, give aways etc.
Should we have a lottery with prizes? Table with trophies? Show wins bragging pictures?
Cute puppy pics? Face painting (just kidding)?
More info to follow. Please contact me for any questions or ideas etc.

BLUE FLASH - June 23, 2014 - Good Sportsman 2014

Thank you to those who sent nominations for Good Sportsman. After careful
deliberation the Kerry Blue Terrier Club of Canada Executive is pleased to announce:

SPECIAL ORDERS

Good Sportsman of the Year 2014 is awarded to PENNY HANSON (AB)

Penny Hanson has over the last number of years shown great joy and willing
interest in helping new and experienced owners get the best out of their
Kerry Blue Terriers.

She take pride in showing "newbies" how to learn the best way to handle,
care for, groom, and show their dogs. Penny seems to have an intuitive
ability to get the best out of a puppy, whether she is introducing it to its
first ear setting, or first grooming away from it's home breeder. She is
calm, and gentle with the pup, and shows the owner the easiest tricks to
keep the puppy distracted, and feel safe while it is getting its ears
plucked, or nails trimmed. She willingly shows new owners, how to dremel,
or trim the nails, brush out that fuzzy, puppy coat, how to clipper,
scissor, and trim the coat correctly.

These are not her own puppies, but may come from further away, so the
breeder is not available to help out the new owner. Recently she helped an
owner re-set a rosed ear, so that the ear set would be corrected, and the
final adult ear set would be the right one,for a Kerry Blue. She also
re-trimmed a puppy, with an accidental scissoring "hole" in its coat, so
that it would look its best in the ring. The puppy took the BW points that day!

I have watched her stand ring side, giving encouraging instructions to a
nervous, new owner who was showing her new pup. The owner did much better
in the ring that day and had good control over her exuberant charge. It's
nice to see experienced people, like Penny, encouraging the new comers, and
supporting those of us who were once more able to show a dog, but now need
help to get the job done well. I know many others will assist someone who
needs to learn, even when the pup is not of their breeding, or just needs
help, due to disabilities, but Penny is such a good example of someone who
acts on this, that in my opinion, I think she exemplifies, what we all would
like to see done. This is a fine definition of Good Sportsmanship. These
actions support, and promote the welfare of our breed, and as well,
encourage their owners to learn the skills to care for these wonderful
dogs.. Susan Hurtak (AB)

Thank you again for your continued support of the Kerry breed and the KBTCC!!

Louise
